The Reconciliation Quilt

IThe Truth and Reconciliation Commision of Canada (TRC) was active from 2008 to 2015. In June 2015, the TRC released an executive summary of its findings, including 94 "calls to action. These 'calls to action' identified points of reconciliation between Canadians and Indigenous peoples.

In 2017, a group of dedicated individuals came together to create a quilt. The blocks in this quilt would symbolize each of the TRC's 94'calls to action.' Participants came from the Mid Island Metis Nation, Nanaimo Aboriginal Center, Tsawalk School and the Vancouver Island Exhibition (VIEx). The group was lead by Elder Sally Williams.

A grant received from the federal government of Canada was used to create this quilt.

Assembled in 2020, COVID19 hindered the presentation of the completed quilt. We present this moving tribute to the survivors.
